PAUL SNOWDEN CAUGHT IN BURNLEY BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS: SHOCKING SEXUAL CONDUCT REVEALED
In September 2021, a disturbing case unfolded in Burnley involving a man named Paul Snowden, who was caught in a sting operation conducted by vigilant paedophile hunters. These online vigilantes had created a fake social media profile, pretending to be a 13-year-old girl, with the aim of catching individuals attempting to engage in illegal sexual communications with minors.
Paul Snowden, aged 51 and residing on Standen Hall Drive in Burnley, believed he was communicating with a young girl.
During their exchanges, Snowden sent explicit photographs of himself and discussed his inappropriate desires, including a disturbing conversation about wanting to see the girl in a school uniform.
Despite his efforts to establish a sexual relationship, Snowden never attempted to meet the decoy in person.
Nevertheless, his details were collected by the authorities, leading to his subsequent arrest by police officers.
During the court proceedings at Burnley Crown Court, Snowden’s defense lawyer, James Heyworth, emphasized the potential for rehabilitation, highlighting Snowden’s previously clean record and suggesting that he could be helped to address his behavior.
However, the prosecution presented a starkly different picture of Snowden’s actions, which involved attempts to initiate sexual contact with a minor and to incite the girl to engage in sexual activities, including viewing explicit images.
Judge Andrew Jefferies QC delivered the sentence, condemning Snowden’s conduct but also acknowledging certain mitigating factors.
Snowden was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he reoffended within that period.
The judge remarked, “Over a number of discussions with that ‘child,’ you developed a relationship, groomed who you thought was the child, and requested and referred to various sex acts.” He further stated, “You are 51 years of age and you have never been in trouble before.
A number of reasons have been posted for why you engaged in this behaviour – none of them afford you any excuse.” Despite this, Judge Jefferies acknowledged Snowden’s good character and the genuine remorse and shame he displayed, as noted in the pre-sentence report.
To ensure Snowden’s rehabilitation and public safety, he will receive targeted support through one-to-one interventions.
Additionally, Snowden’s name will be entered onto the sex offender register for a period of 10 years, during which he will be subject to notification requirements.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat online grooming and protect minors from exploitation, highlighting the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in tackling such heinous crimes.
