MAN ACCUSED OF TRYING TO MURDER CHILD FACES COURT
A 34-year-old man accused of the attempted murder of a young child is facing a string of serious charges after appearing in court.Paul Smith, who gave an address in East Lothian, is accused of attempted murder, abduction, assault to injury and danger of life in connection with an incident involving a child.
The allegations are among the most serious that can be heard by the courts and the case is expected to proceed through further legal hearings.
Smith has since been released from custody while the criminal proceedings continue.
At this stage, the allegations have not been proven in court, and Smith is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until he is convicted.
The case will return to court at a later date.
