PERTH MAN, 51, SENT 58 THREATENING TEXTS TO GIRLFRIEND AFTER SHE REFUSED TO LET HIM RIDE HIS BIKE
A Perth man, identified as Paul Scobie, aged 51, has been involved in a serious domestic incident. He bombarded his girlfriend with nearly 60 threatening text messages and several menacing phone calls after she refused to let him ride his bike while intoxicated.
According to reports, Scobie, after drinking throughout the night, got into an argument with his partner when she told him he needed to sober up before taking his bike out of the shed.
Later that evening, she received numerous threatening communications from him, including messages stating he would destroy her home and damaging her bicycle.
Scobie was brought before Perth Sheriff Court where he admitted to making repeated offensive remarks and threats of violence in messages and calls on August 1 of the previous year.
The court was told that he called his partner a "f***ing whore" and expressed intentions to "hammer a bike until there was nothing left." Sheriff Euan Duthie ordered Scobie to undertake 60 hours of unpaid work, recognizing the seriousness of the offense and its impact on the victim.
He also ordered Scobie to stay away from her for a year to prevent further offending.
Scobie pleaded guilty to sending offensive and menacing messages and breaching a court order prohibiting him from approaching her.
The incident stemmed from a disagreement about his behavior after drinking.
His solicitor indicated that while the threats to damage the bike may reflect the nature of his messages, the relationship was over, and they would remain friends in the future.
