PAUL ROBSON SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS FOR BRUTAL MURDER IN WALLSEND, NORTHUMBERLAND
Paul Robson, a known cage fighter with a notorious criminal history, has been sentenced to a lengthy term of 35 years in prison for the murder of his former partner, Caroline Kayll. The tragic incident took place in her home in Northumberland, and the court proceedings revealed the horrifying details of the attack that led to her death.According to court records, Robson launched a sustained and vicious assault on Kayll during the early hours of November. The attack was characterized by extreme violence, including Robson kicking her in the head while wearing heavy work boots, slashing her with knives, and possibly strangling her in a brutal attempt to silence her. The injuries inflicted were catastrophic, resulting in Kayll, aged 47, succumbing to severe brain injuries that ultimately caused her death.
The court also heard that prior to the attack, Kayll had paid Robson a sum of £29,000 in an effort to keep silent about her secret relationship with a 15-year-old boy. Despite this financial arrangement, Robson's violence escalated to a deadly level. Evidence presented during the trial showed that both Kayll and her teenage partner were subjected to further violence, including being sprayed with ammonia, and armed with screwdrivers, pliers, and a wrench. The assailant also confiscated their phones to prevent any chance of calling for help.
Robson’s criminal record is extensive, with 21 convictions for a total of 92 offences spanning over more than thirty years. His history of violence was a significant factor in the court’s sentencing decision. During the trial, it was revealed that Robson had also attempted to kill the teenage boy involved in the relationship and had seriously injured him during the attack. The court heard that Robson was wanted on recall to prison at the time of the murder for failing to meet his probation officer, which added to the gravity of his actions.
The judge overseeing the case described the attack as particularly brutal, emphasizing the use of ammonia as a weapon and Robson’s gratuitous violence as Kayll was dying. The judge stated, “You ended her life and you brought grief and misery to the lives of others.” The sentencing reflected the severity of the crime and the danger Robson posed to society.
Kayll’s family expressed their profound devastation and grief following the verdict. A victim impact statement conveyed that their lives had become a “living nightmare,” a trauma that they believed would haunt them forever. The court’s decision also prompted Northumbria Police to review their procedures, with officials stating they would examine whether any opportunities to arrest Robson earlier had been missed, in light of his extensive criminal history and the circumstances surrounding the case.
