PAUL PROUDMAN FROM KINMEL BAY SENTENCED IN CAERNARFON FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN

In a significant legal development at Caernarfon Crown Court, Paul Proudman, a 37-year-old resident of Cae Blodau in Kinmel Bay, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a series of serious sex offences. The court also mandated that Proudman register as a sex offender and imposed a new sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) to restrict his future conduct.

The case against Proudman has been ongoing, with the latest proceedings taking place in August 2017. During this hearing, Proudman pleaded guilty to an extensive list of 18 new offences, which had been committed between January and February of that year. The charges included multiple counts related to the possession and creation of indecent photographs of children, as well as attempts to incite minors to engage in sexual activities and produce indecent images of themselves.

Judge Huw Rees, presiding over the case, decided to adjourn proceedings for the preparation of pre-sentence reports, indicating the court’s intent to fully understand Proudman’s background and the factors influencing his behaviour before delivering a final sentence. The judge scheduled the sentencing for September 6, 2017, emphasizing the gravity of Proudman’s actions and the likelihood that custody would be a significant consideration.

During the hearing, Proudman admitted to multiple serious charges, including three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, two counts of possessing such photographs, and two counts of making indecent images. He also pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic material, attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity, and inciting a child to produce indecent images of herself. Additionally, Proudman admitted to attempting to incite children to engage in sexual acts and to possess indecent images unlawfully. One of the charges involved breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) that had been previously issued to him in 2011 for similar offences, as confirmed by his legal representative, Dafydd Roberts.

Following his arrest and court appearances, Proudman was granted bail under strict conditions. He was ordered to reside at the address he provided to the court and to cooperate fully with probation services, reflecting the court’s cautious approach given the severity of his offences and his prior history. The case underscores ongoing concerns about the safety of children and the importance of rigorous legal measures to prevent reoffending by known sex offenders in the Kinmel Bay area.
