NOTTINGHAM SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR ONLINE CHATS WITH UNDERCOVER COP POSING AS TEEN GIRL
Convicted sex offender Paul Peat had served more than three years in jail after he befriended two 14-year-old girls in an internet cafe and engaged in sexual activity with both.Nottingham Crown Court heard on Tuesday Peat, 54, of Truman Close, St Ann's, is candid in saying he had a sexual interest in girls aged 14 to 16 years.
He was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register in 2006 after he committed sexual activity with those girls and was found in possession of indecent images of children.
He had pretended to be the father to one of his victims, ringing her school to convince them of her absence, then going on to abuse her.
Despite those crimes, Peat was caught earlier this year having an inappropriate online chat with a girl he believed to be a 13-year-old girl — but was in fact an undercover cop posing as one.
The person shared her age and said she was "doing school work." He immediately turned the conversation to sexual matters, continued to do so despite her asking if he realized she was 13.
Peat asked her what she looked like, her sexual experiences, and if she fancied trying some.
He even described what sexual acts he wanted to carry out on her, but at no time did she reciprocate.
Peat suggested taking the chat elsewhere, and she provided a WhatsApp number.
He used his own mobile number to log into that chat, told her his first name, his age, that he was in Nottingham and his place of employment.
"He was obviously concerned about what he was doing because he told her 'to be careful' because he did not want to go to prison," explained Mr.
Fountain to Judge Stuart Rafferty QC, who sentenced Peat.
Matthew Smith, mitigating, said, "unusually he made an admission to his sexual attraction to teenage girls." Despite this, Peat has never done a sex offenders' programme.
Judge Rafferty sentenced him for an offence of attempted sexual communication with a child, making a sexual harm prevention order for ten years.
"You let yourself, for some time, take part in this fantasy," said the judge.
He also imposed a three-year community order, 60 rehabilitation days, and a victim surcharge.
