SOUTH SHIELDS MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STALKING

Paul Jagger, a 51-year-old man from South Shields, has been given a prison sentence after being convicted of multiple sexual crimes. The case was heard at Newcastle Crown Court on July 11, where Jagger was found guilty of three sexual assault charges and one attempted sexual assault. Despite initially denying the allegations, the jury’s assessment of the evidence led to a conviction on all counts. The inquiry was initiated by Cleveland Police’s CAVA Team in 2022 after reports emerged of a woman suffering a sexual assault in the Teesside area. Jagger was also convicted of additional offenses involving sexual activity with a minor and stalking within the Northumbria Police jurisdiction. The court sentenced him to four and a half years in prison. During the sentencing, Temporary Detective Sergeant Natasha Barber remarked, “While no sentence can undo the harm caused or change what happened, I hope this brings some measure of closure to the victim and her family.” She highlighted the importance of reporting such incidents and offered resources for support. The victim, who had to recount her experience in court, expressed relief that justice was achieved.
