PAUL HARDING OF SOUTH NORWOOD INVOLVED IN CHILD ABUSE IMAGES SCANDAL AT DULWICH COLLEGE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Paul Harding, a 50-year-old catering supervisor from South Norwood, was found to have engaged in the distribution and possession of highly depraved child abuse images. Harding, who was employed at the prestigious Dulwich College in southeast London, was caught in May 2012 during a police operation targeting online child predators. The Metropolitan Police’s paedophile unit executed a search warrant at his residence, uncovering a disturbing collection of illicit material on his Fujitsu Siemens laptop.

Investigators discovered a total of 22 images, with 12 classified at the highest levels of severity, indicating extreme abuse. Additionally, four films at the second highest level of severity were recovered, including a two-minute video titled 'Mum, dad and son.' The analysis of Harding’s computer revealed that he had been actively communicating with other paedophiles through online chat platforms. These exchanges included discussions about the most extreme forms of child sexual abuse and explicit plans to groom children for sexual exploitation.

Harding’s online conversations revealed a disturbing desire to 'groom' young children, with him expressing intentions to educate a child in sexual acts and recruit other youngsters. In one particularly sick exchange, he stated his aim to 'groom a young kid and educate him in the best sex going and get him to recruit young kids too.' Such statements underscore the dangerous and predatory mindset Harding exhibited.

Further investigation showed Harding’s involvement in a chatroom where he openly discussed his intentions to groom and sexually abuse children. His actions and communications demonstrated a clear intent to facilitate and promote the sexual exploitation of minors, which is a grave concern for law enforcement and the community alike.

During the court proceedings, Harding pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including four counts of distributing indecent images of children, six counts of making indecent images, and two counts of possession of controlled substances. Officers also found small quantities of crystal meth and GBL (a Class C drug) at his residence.

Judge Andrew Goymer, a former student of Dulwich College, presided over the case and chose to impose a suspended prison sentence rather than immediate incarceration. Harding was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for one year, and was ordered to undertake a 12-month supervision program. He was also banned indefinitely from working with children and required to complete up to 60 days of internet sexual offending treatment. Additionally, Harding was mandated to contribute £300 towards prosecution costs and was subjected to a five-year sexual offence prevention order, which restricts his internet activity and access to minors.

In his remarks, Judge Goymer emphasized the seriousness of Harding’s crimes, stating, ‘It’s very easy for people who commit the offence of downloading images of children to think it is a victimless crime. They think that because they are not touching the children, not in sexual contact with the children, that they are just looking at a picture. If you pause and think for just a few seconds, you will realize that’s not a realistic way of looking at it.’

Harding’s case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory individuals. His connection to South Norwood and employment at a top private school have added a layer of community concern, prompting calls for increased safeguards and awareness to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future.
