PAUL GORRY SENTENCED IN CREWE FOR RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Crewe, Paul Antony Gorry, aged 19, was handed a five-year prison sentence at Chester Crown Court after pleading guilty to the serious charge of rape. The incident took place in the early months of the previous year, within the victim's own home in Crewe, a town known for its close-knit community and bustling streets.

Prosecutor Meirion Lewis-Jones provided the court with a detailed account of the distressing events, informing Judge Elgan Edwards that the assault occurred while the young girl, only 12 years old at the time, was watching television. Gorry had called at her residence and was allowed entry despite an earlier argument between the two. Once inside, the situation escalated as they resumed their disagreement, which quickly turned violent.

According to Mr. Lewis-Jones, Gorry's agitation grew more intense, culminating in him forcing the girl to the floor, pulling down her clothing, and beginning to assault her sexually. The girl was visibly distressed, crying and attempting to shield her eyes from the ordeal. She was subjected to physical and emotional pain, feeling horrible and extremely upset during the attack. The court was told that Gorry was disturbed by the ringing of the telephone during the assault, which prompted him to leave the house abruptly.

The following day, Gorry threatened the young girl, warning her that if she told anyone about what had happened, he would repeat the assault. Despite this intimidation, the girl confided in her mother, leading to the incident being reported to the police. The case took a further turn when, in October, Gorry admitted his guilt to a social worker while he was incarcerated at a young offenders' institution, where he was serving a three-year sentence for attempted robbery.

During the court proceedings, Gorry's defense lawyer, Ian Unsworth, highlighted that his client had been born with brain damage and had experienced a difficult upbringing. Unsworth emphasized that Gorry did not commit the crime for pleasure, acknowledging the wickedness of his actions and expressing remorse through his lawyer. Gorry himself conveyed an apology, though he recognized that words could not undo the harm caused.

Judge Edwards addressed the court, stating that the gravity of the offense made a custodial sentence unavoidable. He also ordered that Gorry would be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register upon his release from prison, reflecting the serious nature of his crime and the need for ongoing monitoring to protect the community of Crewe from future harm.
