BURNLEY PAEDOPHILE TEACHER PAUL FORT ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Burnley community, Paul Fort, a primary school teacher from Westbourne Avenue South, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found in possession of indecent images of young girls.

The incident, which surfaced in July 2018, not only tarnished Fort’s reputation but also resulted in the loss of his employment and marriage, highlighting the profound personal and social consequences of such offenses.

According to Blackburn magistrates, Fort, aged 51, pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

Despite the gravity of the charges, he was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.

Additionally, he was placed under a community order for the same duration, which includes 30 days of rehabilitation.

The court also mandated that Fort register as a sex offender for seven years, underlining the seriousness with which the judicial system treated his case.

Prosecutor Parveen Akhtar detailed the circumstances leading to Fort’s arrest.

She explained that police had been alerted to the presence of indecent images being downloaded from Fort’s devices.

The investigation began when officers visited his residence, but Fort was not at home at the time.

During the search, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops, disk drives, and USB sticks, both from his home and workplace.

The evidence was found on a laptop stored in a wardrobe in a bedroom.

The images discovered were classified as Category B and C.

The Category B images depicted young teenage girls engaging in non-penetrative sexual activities, while the Category C images showed girls aged between 10 and 15 years posing nude or in sexually suggestive positions.

These findings caused a significant social media backlash, with the case attracting widespread condemnation and a 'social media storm' of abuse directed at Fort.

Defence lawyer Nick Cassidy acknowledged the public’s revulsion towards such offenses.

He emphasized that Fort, at the time of his arrest, was a married father of two with no prior convictions.

Cassidy also revealed that the case had taken a toll on Fort’s personal life, leading to the breakdown of his marriage due to the immense pressure and shame associated with the allegations.

The lawyer stated, “He and his wife of many years have now split because the pressure of this case has been too much.

He will be formally sacked from his job.

He knows he only has himself to blame.” Earlier in June 2018, police had also uncovered similar disturbing material on Fort’s computer at his home.

The investigation revealed nine moving images and 28 photographs, including some of the most serious Category A and B images, depicting young girls engaging in sexual acts and posing nude.

Fort, who qualified as a teacher in 2010 and has been involved with a local church, maintained that he was not sexually attracted to children.

However, the evidence against him was substantial enough to warrant further legal proceedings.

The magistrates decided to adjourn the case until next month for a comprehensive pre-sentence report, indicating ongoing judicial consideration of the appropriate punishment.

Fort, who admitted to possessing indecent photographs on October 12th, remains under scrutiny as the legal process continues, underscoring the gravity of his actions and the community’s demand for justice.
