PAUL COOK FROM REDRUTH SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE

In December 2017, a disturbing case involving a man from Redruth has come to light, highlighting the serious nature of crimes committed against young victims. Paul Cook, aged 24 and residing on Scorrier Road in Redruth, was found guilty during a trial held in the summer of charges that included one count of rape, three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and five counts of possessing indecent images of children on his mobile phone.

The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of Cook’s interactions with his victims, which spanned over a period of time. On Friday, December 8, Cook was sentenced to a total of seven years in prison. The court also mandated that he serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole. Additionally, Cook will be under a license period for five years following his release, during which he will be subject to strict supervision and conditions.

During the trial, Nigel Wraith provided detailed testimony about the nature of Cook’s relationships with the victims. He explained that the first victim, a girl from Camborne, had known Cook through a mutual friend. Wraith stated, “The first victim had known Paul Cook and he was well aware of her age. The two were sat together and started hugging and kissing which then led to full, unprotected sex. It was the first time she had had sex.”

Further details revealed that the first victim and Cook continued their sexual encounters at various locations, including a house in Camborne and a nearby mine. The victim eventually reported the abuse to the police in May 2016 after a relative confronted Cook about his behavior.

The second victim, who also came forward in August 2016, was introduced to Cook through mutual friends. She told police that she found Cook attractive, noting his six-pack abs and describing him as “cute.” Wraith recounted that their interaction began with kissing, after which Cook exposed himself and asked her to masturbate him. He then requested sex, but she initially refused, insisting she was only 15. Despite her resistance, the relationship progressed, and on at least one occasion, Cook allegedly forced his penis into her mouth, leading to a rape charge.

Wraith added that the second victim was reluctant about the sexual relationship but went along with it to avoid being labeled as “frigid.” The case underscores the bravery of the victims in coming forward and cooperating with law enforcement to bring Cook to justice, highlighting the importance of protecting minors from such predatory behavior.
