DUNDEE MAN BREACHES COURT ORDER AFTER ASSAULT AND CAR DAMAGE
A violent individual identified as Paul Colquhoun engaged in aggressive and harmful behavior during a house party in Inchture, Perthshire. He attacked his partner by grabbing her by the throat and kicking her to the ground after learning she had been kissing his friend.
Following this, Colquhoun damaged a parked car by kicking out the windscreen and smashing the wing mirrors, mistakenly believing it belonged to his friend.
The incident escalated as he turned his anger toward his partner again, seizing her by the throat, which was described as painful but not restricting her breathing.
The woman managed to escape and was later assisted by a member of the public who took her back to Dundee and contacted police.
Colquhoun was previously under a restriction of liberty order but breached it by not adhering to the terms.
He has been assessed as suitable for unpaid work and has been given his own tenancy in Dundee.
The case was heard at Perth Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Paul Brown considered jailing him but decided to defer sentencing for further reports to evaluate his remorse and understanding of the situation.
Colquhoun is scheduled for sentencing next month.
He is already subject to a one-year non-harassment order banning him from approaching his victim.
His solicitor acknowledged the turbulent nature of their relationship and attributed his behavior to alcohol influence, though they emphasized that it does not excuse his actions.
The court was made aware of previous breaches and the recent behavior that led to this trial, which included assault and criminal damage.
The court's decision reflects the ongoing concern for public safety and the offender’s accountability.
