PERTHSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ATTEMPT TO DROWN WIFE IN LOCH TUMMEL
A heavy metal music fan and former BBC surveyor named Paul Brown has been sentenced to four years in prison for an assault on his wife, Catriona Watson-Brown, at Loch Tummel.Brown admitted to endangering his wife’s life by holding her under the surface of the loch while she fought desperately to breathe.
The court heard that Brown was described as a "Jekyll and Hyde" character who would alternate between silent moods and violent outbursts, often listening to loud heavy rock music when angry.
On the day of the incident, Brown allegedly summoned his wife to the water’s edge while loud music played from his workshop.
When she followed him, he deliberately moved into the water, grabbed her arm, and pulled her into the loch.
Brown remained calm initially but then took hold of both her arms and pushed her head underwater so she could not breathe, causing her to fear she was going to die.
He repeatedly pushed her into the water, asking her if she wanted to die or live, and threatened her with further violence, including making threats about hurting her with a knife.
Mrs Watson-Brown lost her glasses and footwear during the ordeal and believed she was going to die.
The court also heard that Brown bit her twice on the cheek and threatened to kill her.
He admitted assaulting his wife and endangering her life, as well as attacking a teenage girl on a separate occasion.
The sentence was four years’ imprisonment, and Brown was described in court as a violent individual with a volatile temper and a penchant for loud heavy metal music when upset.
