MAN JAILED FOR BLACKMAILING WOMAN OVER INTIMATE IMAGES
A 27-year-old man from Limavady, County Londonderry/Derry, has been sentenced to two years in prison for extorting over £8,000 from a vulnerable woman who had shared intimate images with him.
Upon release, he will serve an additional two years on supervised licence.
Antrim Crown Court heard that Jordan McKeever targeted women he met online, using blackmail to finance his gambling addiction.
Judge Peter Irvine KC described McKeever’s conduct as "despicable" and emphasized that blackmail, which deeply harms victims, warrants a strict penalty.
The judge pointed out that the offending involved significant planning and labelled it "a highly reprehensible series of actions over an extended period." McKeever admitted that between January 2023 and April 2024, he made threats to demand money from the woman for his own benefit.
The victim had connected with him online after receiving a friend request in January 2023, and after a month of messaging, he persuaded her to send explicit images.
Following this, McKeever began demanding money, threatening to reveal the images to her contacts.
The victim paid a total of £8,266.
Police traced McKeever via social media and bank records.
Initially denying involvement, he later confessed to creating multiple online profiles to evade detection and admitted that the money was to fund his gambling.
He denied intending to share the images.
The court described the case as "nasty, calculated, and exploitative." The Defense acknowledged the seriousness of the crime but noted McKeever’s remorse.
A four-year restraining order was also imposed.
Northern Ireland police praised the sentence, highlighting the harm caused to the victim and encouraging others to report similar incidents.
