PAUL BIDDLE, DANGEROUS WORCESTER RAPIST, SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Worcester community, Paul Biddle, a man with a long and troubling history of violence towards women, has been sentenced to a total of 15 years behind bars for his heinous crimes.The sentencing took place at Worcester Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of Biddle's actions and the dangerous nature of his behavior.
According to the court proceedings, Biddle, who was 34 years old at the time of the crimes, was found guilty of two counts of rape.
The incidents occurred while he was residing in Worcester, and the victims included a woman who was described as being mentally vulnerable.
The court was told that Biddle's violence extended beyond sexual assault, as he also physically assaulted the woman, primarily targeting her arms and legs in a manner that concealed the bruising, making it less visible to others.
Further disturbing details emerged during the trial, revealing that Biddle had moved to a caravan in Broadwas, where he continued to perpetrate acts of violence and control over the same woman over a short period last year.
This period was characterized by what the prosecutor, Kassan Siva, described as a 'reign of terror,' marked by abusive, manipulative, and controlling behavior.
Despite being convicted of two rape charges, Biddle was acquitted of a third charge of rape but was found guilty of breaching a previous Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).
It was also disclosed that Biddle had accumulated an extensive criminal record, with 21 previous convictions encompassing 50 offences, many of which involved violence against women.
The court heard that Biddle had been previously sentenced to a five-year ASBO in 2014, which explicitly prohibited him from engaging in any harassment or violence towards women.
However, he had blatantly ignored this order, continuing his pattern of abusive behavior.
During the trial, Biddle's conduct was notably disruptive.
When the jury delivered their verdicts, he shouted and swore at them, necessitating his removal to the cells by court officers.
The presiding judge, Recorder Jason Macadam, expressed understanding that Biddle might have found it difficult to control himself following the trial's distressing proceedings.
The judge also highlighted Biddle's use of violence as a tool to dominate and control women, emphasizing his deep-seated hatred and mistrust of females, which he described as making Biddle a significant and ongoing danger to women.
In addition to the convictions, Biddle refused to appear in court for the sentencing hearing, choosing to remain in his prison cell.
The judge acknowledged that this refusal was likely due to his inability to control his emotions and behavior.
Biddle's outburst at the end of the trial, which included shouting and swearing at the jury, was considered contempt of court and resulted in an additional three-month extension to his sentence.
The final sentence handed down by Recorder Macadam consisted of nine years for each of the two rape convictions, to be served concurrently, along with an additional two years for breaching the ASBO.
An extended license period of four years was also imposed, reflecting the dangerousness of his offenses.
The total sentence, including the contempt of court penalty, amounted to 15 years and three months.
Furthermore, Biddle will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities after his release.
