On November 17, a man was sentenced to prison for a rape that occurred in Carlisle.
Paul Beattie, aged 59 and already serving time in prison, was today given a prison term of 10 years and six months.
The criminal acts took place against a woman in the years 1992 and 1993.
His sentence also includes an extended five-year licence period.
Detective Constable Kerry Gibson, from the Cumberland Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, stated, “Beattie carried out a violent assault on the victim, during which it was evident that consent was not given.
This case serves as a reminder that, regardless of how much time has passed, authorities will pursue justice for offenders of serious sexual crimes.
