PAUL BARRATT OF SALFORD CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG STORM

In a disturbing case that shocked the local community in Salford, Paul Barratt, born around 1983 and residing at Spruce Court, M6 5EN, was found guilty of animal cruelty in 2016. The conviction followed the emergence of a distressing CCTV footage that captured Barratt violently abusing his pet dog, a black Labrador named Storm.

According to court reports and statements from RSPCA officials, Barratt’s cruelty extended over a period of time. It was revealed that he had kept Storm confined within his flat for approximately 17 hours, during which the dog desperately needed to relieve herself. When Storm attempted to defecate in the lift, Barratt’s frustration and anger culminated in a violent outburst.

The footage showed Barratt entering the lift, kicking and dragging Storm by her lead in a brutal manner. The images depicted a clear act of physical abuse, which prompted immediate intervention from animal welfare authorities. Following the incident, Storm was removed from Barratt’s care and placed into the custody of the RSPCA, ensuring her safety from further harm.

In sentencing, the court imposed a six-week curfew on Barratt, along with a fine of £400 to cover costs and a £60 victim surcharge. Additionally, Barratt was banned from keeping any animals for a period of four years, a restriction that expired in 2020. This case highlights the ongoing efforts of animal welfare organizations to combat cruelty and protect vulnerable animals in the Salford area.
