PAUL BAILEY FROM CARLISLE FACES SERIOUS CHILD IMAGE AND OBSCENE PUBLICATION CHARGES
In June 2018, a man from Carlisle named Paul Bailey was brought before the city’s crown court to face multiple serious charges related to the exploitation and distribution of indecent images involving children, as well as the publication of obscene material online.Paul Douglas Bailey, aged 46, appeared via video link to answer to a total of twelve separate allegations.
The court proceedings revealed that Bailey had admitted to creating and possessing indecent photographs of children, including images classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe level of such material.
These offenses were committed over a span of a few days, specifically between February 21 and February 24 of the same year.
In addition to these charges, Bailey pleaded guilty to eight counts of publishing obscene articles during online conversations with others.
These exchanges took place during February and March, during which he shared or distributed material deemed inappropriate and offensive to the public.
The court also heard that Bailey, who was described as a man of previously good character, had committed a separate offense involving the theft of children’s underwear.
This item belonged to a female victim, adding another disturbing element to the case.
Judge James Adkin decided to adjourn the case to allow for the preparation of detailed reports by a psychologist and the probation service.
These reports will include an assessment of the potential risks Bailey poses, both in terms of reoffending and the danger he might present to children in the future.
Bailey was remanded in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled to take place at the crown court on July 23.
During the hearing, the judge stated, “I haven’t made any decision about what the sentence will be.
All options will be available to whoever sentences you on that date,” indicating that Bailey’s punishment could range from imprisonment to other legal measures depending on the findings of the upcoming reports.
