PATRICK MORIARTY FROM HARTEST AND SUDBURY JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND UP-SKIRT PHOTOGRAPHS

In a significant case that has shocked the communities of Hartest and Sudbury, Patrick Moriarty, a 27-year-old resident of Stowe Hill, Hartest, was sentenced to prison after admitting to a series of disturbing offenses involving the exploitation and indecent imagery of young girls. The proceedings took place at Ipswich Crown Court, where Moriarty faced multiple charges related to his inappropriate conduct and possession of explicit material.

According to court records, Moriarty was apprehended in December of the previous year at his residence on Market Hill, Sudbury. His arrest followed an investigation by detectives who traced the source of certain illicit images to a Russian website. This website had been hosting and distributing photographs that depicted young girls in up-skirt situations, images that Moriarty had uploaded himself. The investigation revealed that Moriarty had a troubling pattern of behavior spanning over a decade.

Prosecutor Peter Gair detailed that during the search of Moriarty’s computer equipment, authorities discovered more than 6,000 indecent photographs of children. These images included both the up-skirt photographs taken in public places such as shops and streets between January and December 2016, and a vast collection of indecent images that Moriarty had acquired over a period stretching from 2001 to 2016.

During police interviews, Moriarty confessed to uploading some of these images to the Russian website. He also admitted to having a sexual interest in girls under the age of 12, a revelation that added to the severity of his offenses. The court was told that the up-skirt photographs were taken covertly in public settings, highlighting the invasive nature of his actions.

Judge Rupert Overbury, presiding over the case, sentenced Moriarty to 18 months in prison. Additionally, Moriarty was ordered to be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, a measure designed to restrict his access to minors and prevent further offenses. The judge described Moriarty’s behavior as indicative of an “entrenched and disturbing” interest in young girls, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes and the potential risk he posed to the community.
