PATRICK HOGAN OF AIRDRIE AND CRAIGNEUK SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF ABUSE ON THREE SISTERS

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Airdrie and Craigneuk, Patrick Hogan, a 59-year-old father of ten, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of systematically abusing three young sisters over a period spanning nearly twenty years.

Hogan's crimes came to light following a series of disturbing revelations and testimonies from the victims, who ranged in age from their early teens to their late thirties. The eldest victim, now 38, known as Mrs X, recounted that the first assault occurred in the 1970s when she was approximately 12 years old. She described how Hogan committed indecent acts at his former residence on Hawthorn Drive in Craigneuk, Lanarkshire. According to her account, Hogan engaged in regular sexual activity with her and forced her to participate in depraved acts, causing her significant emotional and psychological trauma.

Mrs X, who traveled from Italy to give her testimony, revealed that her experiences with Hogan led her to miss most of her secondary education due to truancy and even resulted in her running away from home in an attempt to escape her ordeal.

Her younger sister, Miss Y, aged 27, also testified that she was subjected to Hogan’s sexual abuse at his home on Whitehill Avenue in Airdrie, as well as in his Hillman Avenger car. She described a pattern of repeated assaults, which left her deeply scarred.

The third sister, Miss Z, who is currently five months pregnant, disclosed that her abuse began before her first Holy Communion when she was just seven years old. She recounted how Hogan made her perform a sex act and subjected her to sexual assault on an almost daily basis, including in the aftermath of the tragic suicide of one of Hogan’s daughters.

During the sentencing hearing, Lord Carlaway addressed Hogan directly, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes. He stated that Hogan had been convicted of extremely serious charges and made it clear that Hogan’s alcohol abuse was no justification for his actions. The judge expressed profound regret over the damage Hogan had inflicted, describing it as incalculable and emphasizing the lasting impact on the victims.

Hogan’s arrest and subsequent conviction have brought to light a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned decades, leaving a trail of suffering among the three sisters from the communities of Airdrie and Craigneuk. The case underscores the importance of justice for victims of such heinous crimes and the ongoing need for vigilance and support for survivors.
