PATRICK HIGGINS FROM AIRDRIE CAUGHT URINATING ON TOY SHELF IN TOWN CENTRE SHOP
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the local community, Patrick Higgins, a resident of Airdrie, was caught engaging in highly inappropriate behavior inside a shop located on Graham Street. The incident occurred in the town centre, specifically within the premises of the Home Bargains store, where Higgins was seen urinating directly onto a shelf filled with toys. This act was committed in front of a young girl, who was present at the scene, adding a layer of distress and concern among witnesses and shoppers alike.Following his arrest, Higgins, aged 34, appeared before the Airdrie Sheriff Court on December 18, where he pleaded guilty to the charges related to his misconduct. The court proceedings revealed the gravity of his actions, which were described as 'disgusting' by Sheriff Frank Pieri. Higgins was taken into custody prior to his court appearance and was brought before the judiciary to face the consequences of his behavior.
During the hearing, Higgins’ defense solicitor provided context for his client’s actions, describing them as part of a pattern of bizarre behavior. The solicitor explained that Higgins’ personality is characterized by certain traits, and that his drinking habits are a significant factor in his conduct. The defense argued that Higgins has a difficult and challenging background, which has contributed to his current state. As part of the proposed resolution, the solicitor urged the court to consider a community payback order that would include supervision and unpaid work, rather than more severe penalties.
In response, Sheriff Frank Pieri acknowledged the seriousness of the offense, emphasizing the repulsive nature of Higgins’ actions. The sheriff noted the social work report, which highlighted the difficulties in Higgins’ background, and agreed that a community-based sentence would be appropriate. The court ordered that Higgins serve an 18-month community payback order, during which he must adhere strictly to the instructions of his supervising officer. Sheriff Pieri warned that any breach of this order could result in a return to prison, underscoring the importance of compliance and the consequences of further misconduct in the future.
