PATRICK CRONIN FROM CONCORD, WASHINGTON, SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AT RIDING SCHOOL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Washington, Patrick Cronin, aged 51, was found guilty of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with a 15-year-old girl at his riding school located in Fatfield, Washington. The incident, which spanned over three years, involved Cronin exploiting the girl’s passion for horses to manipulate and seduce her into a sexual relationship. The court proceedings revealed that Cronin first met the young girl at his Fatfield Riding School in August of the previous year. Recognizing her fascination with horses, he used this interest as a means to gain her trust and affection. Over time, their relationship deepened, and Cronin, despite knowing her age, continued to pursue her romantically and sexually.
Prosecutor Anthony Hawks detailed how the relationship initially involved physical contact that was seemingly innocent but quickly escalated into regular sexual encounters. These encounters took place at Cronin’s residence in Concord, Washington, and also in his car. The court was informed that on one particular occasion, a sexual act was performed on the landing of Cronin’s home while two other teenage girls were present in a room downstairs, drinking and unaware of what was happening.
The situation came to light approximately six months later when the young girl confided in a social worker about her relationship with Cronin. This disclosure prompted an investigation, leading to Cronin’s arrest. Initially, he denied the allegations but eventually admitted to seducing the teenager, acknowledging his guilt.
Cronin pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful sexual activity and indecent assault. He was also accused of indecently assaulting another teenage girl; however, the prosecution accepted his plea of not guilty to that particular charge. During the court hearing, the defense, represented by Beatrice Bolton, argued that the girl’s infatuation was driven by her love of horses and that the sexual acts, while inappropriate, were consensual. Bolton emphasized that Cronin, who is separated from his second wife, was aware of his misconduct and should be held accountable.
In sentencing, the court imposed a prison term of 21 months on Patrick Cronin. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing public safety measures. The case has left a lasting impact on the local community in Washington, raising concerns about safeguarding minors and the responsibilities of those in positions of trust.
