OZZIE ORAM CAUGHT IN NEWCASTLE PAEDOPHILE STING BY GEORDIE CHASERS
In April 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded in Newcastle involving a man named Ozzie Oram, who was caught in a sting operation conducted by the vigilant paedophile hunters known as Geordie Chasers.The incident highlights the dangers posed by online predators and the efforts of community groups to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
Oram, who was 29 years old at the time and had no fixed address, initiated contact with a decoy profile on the dating website Lovoo.
The conversation quickly took a sinister turn as Oram engaged in sexually explicit discussions, despite being immediately informed that the profile belonged to a girl who was only 13 years old.
Within just two hours of initial contact, Oram was speaking in a sexual manner, showing a blatant disregard for the age of the individual he believed he was communicating with.
During the exchange, Oram sent explicit images, including photographs of his exposed genitals, and asked the decoy to visit him so they could engage in sexual activity.
He also sent a video of himself performing a sex act and claimed to have previously slept with a 14-year-old girl, although the truth of this claim was not verified in court.
The conversation continued to escalate, with Oram making arrangements to meet the girl in person.
However, his plans were thwarted when he arrived at the designated meeting point and was confronted by members of the Geordie Chasers group.
The video footage from the sting shows Oram becoming visibly upset and distressed, repeatedly expressing his desire not to be arrested.
His reaction underscored the gravity of his intentions and the seriousness of the situation.
Following his arrest, Oram appeared before Newcastle Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
The court heard that the contact was initiated in January of the same year.
Judge Robert Adams addressed Oram directly, stating, “You were told immediately you were communicating, or so you thought, with a 13-year-old.
Within two hours, you started speaking in a sexual manner.” The judge further detailed the evidence, noting that Oram asked whether the girl had seen male genitals before, sent explicit images of himself, and explicitly asked her to come over “so we can ****.” The court also highlighted that Oram had sent a video of himself performing a sex act and an image of his genitals, despite being reminded that the individual he was communicating with was only 13 years old.
He claimed to have had sex with a 14-year-old before, though this assertion was not confirmed.
In sentencing, Oram received a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years, required to sign the sex offenders register for the same period, and ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program.
The court’s decision reflects the serious nature of his actions and the ongoing threat posed by online sexual grooming.
