OWEN MACKENZIE FROM WORCESTER SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN WORCESTER

In a case that has shocked the local community of Worcester, Owen Mackenzie, a 32-year-old resident, was found guilty of possessing and downloading a significant number of indecent images depicting children.

The incident came to light after police executed a search warrant at his residence in November of the previous year, uncovering a disturbing collection of over 3,500 images, some of which depicted young girls as young as six years old.

These images were categorized into different levels of severity, with 3,384 being either moving or still images classified as Category C, which is considered the least serious.

Additionally, there were 284 images at Category B, and five at Category A, representing the most severe category.

Mackenzie pleaded guilty to all three charges related to these offenses.

The investigation revealed that Mackenzie had actively searched for and downloaded these illicit images over a period spanning nearly a decade, from April 2006 to December 2015.

Prosecutor Robert Price explained that authorities had been tracking Mackenzie after they arrested another individual, Robert Price, for child pornography offenses.

During this process, they discovered communications between Mackenzie and Price, which further implicated him in the possession of such material.

It was also revealed that Mackenzie had taken steps to conceal his activities by installing software designed to hide his online activity.

Despite his actions, Mackenzie cooperated fully with police, admitting that his interest in the material was driven by a combination of sexual gratification and boredom.

He also confessed to engaging in conversations with others in chat rooms about the images, although he claimed to have ceased these activities after getting married.

During the court proceedings, Mackenzie’s defense attorney, Nicholas Roberts, highlighted the impact of his client’s addiction on his personal life.

Roberts stated that Mackenzie’s admission of his dependency on pornography had severely damaged his relationship with his wife, leading to the loss of his job and making it more difficult for him to secure future employment.

Judge Nicholas Cole acknowledged the seriousness of the offenses but noted that the number of images involved was at the lower end compared to similar cases.

He emphasized that a custodial sentence would not be appropriate, as it would not allow sufficient time for Mackenzie to undergo the necessary treatment.

Instead, the judge sentenced him to a 36-month community order, which includes requirements to complete twenty days of rehabilitation and participate in a group sex offenders work programme.

Furthermore, Mackenzie was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his use of computers and internet-enabled devices for the next ten years.

He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of five years and was instructed to contribute £250 towards court costs.

The sentence aims to address both the punitive and rehabilitative aspects of his offending, with the hope of preventing future harm.
