OLIVER OWEN AND HIS HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE PLOT IN CARLISLE
A man identified as Oliver Owen has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing thousands of illegal images depicting children. The court learned that Owen, aged 25, had amassed approximately 6,000 images, which included both still photographs and videos.
Among these, 1,081 fell into the most serious category, indicating extreme harm and exploitation.
The possession and distribution of such material are considered grave criminal offenses due to the exploitation of minors.
The case was heard at Carlisle Crown Court, where Prosecutor Tim Evans detailed the disturbing findings from Owen’s mobile phone.
The images had been collected over an 18-month period and were created using three separate applications.
Police investigations revealed that Owen not only possessed these illicit images but also engaged in activities that promoted and contributed to the abuse of children.
During the police raid at his residence in Carlisle in October 2020, Owen is reported to have expressed a sense of despair and regret, reportedly stating, “Yes, I think I have totally ruined my life and all I have worked for.” This statement reflected his acknowledgment of the severity of his actions.
Evidence indicated that videos stored on his device had been traded among online contacts, with Owen making a series of sickening comments about the content.
Furthermore, Owen was involved in group chats where discussions about child abuse took place.
In these conversations, he is said to have proposed disturbing strategies for exploiting children.
Notably, he suggested the idea of creating an orphanage with the sinister intent of selling time with children to the highest bidder.
Prosecutor Tim Evans highlighted that Owen had volunteered suggestions for how such abuse could be carried out, including the exploitation of vulnerable mothers and the establishment of a trafficking scheme.
Owen’s background was described as previously demonstrating good character, which added a disturbing layer to the case.
He admitted to multiple charges, including the possession and distribution of Category A illegal images and the creation of indecent photographs of children.
Representing the defendant in court, defense attorney Judith McCullough expressed remorse on Owen’s behalf.
She stated that Owen was “truly ashamed of himself” and was actively seeking help to understand and address his issues.
According to her, Owen had claimed he did not know how to escape his troubling situation and appeared to have been relieved to be caught, indicating a complex psychological state.
Judge Ian Unsworth QC delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the profound impact of Owen’s actions.
He remarked that Owen’s conduct would be “truly shocking” to his family and friends and characterized his offenses as descending “into the very depths of depravity.” The judge underscored the seriousness of the case, labeling it as one of the more severe instances of its kind.
As part of his sentence, Owen was ordered to register as a sex offender and adhere to a strict 10-year prevention order designed to prevent any recurrence of such criminal behavior or harm.
The court’s judgment made clear the gravity of the crimes committed and the importance of safeguarding children from exploitation and abuse.
