OLIVER NEWTON FROM OLDHAM CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEXUAL CONTACT WITH TEENAGER

In a disturbing case uncovered in May 2015, authorities in Oldham revealed that Oliver Newton, a resident of Saddleworth, was found to possess a disturbing collection of explicit images involving underage children. The police investigation was initiated after concerned parents of a young girl reported suspicious online activity involving Newton.

Officers discovered a file containing 174 images on Newton’s computer, of which 117 were classified as “extreme pornography,” highlighting the severity of the material stored on his device. The Manchester Crown Court was informed that the investigation centered around Newton’s contact with a 15-year-old girl he had met through a social networking platform.

Prosecutor Barrie Darby explained that police responded to reports of Newton’s inappropriate communication with the teenager, which included messages and the exchange of indecent images. Newton, aged 25 at the time, resided on Dacres Drive in Greenfield, and the communication took place between January and March 2013, when he was 23 years old.

The messages revealed Newton’s explicit intentions and desires, with one particular message explicitly outlining what he wanted to do to the young girl. Evidence recovered from his computer and mobile phone confirmed that he had sent and received numerous messages and images during this period.

During the court proceedings, Newton’s defense lawyer, Mark Fireman, described him as an “isolated” young man who had developed an increasingly extreme interest in internet pornography. Fireman emphasized that Newton was deeply ashamed of his actions and had taken steps to distance himself from his previous behavior, including voluntarily resigning from his job.

Newton ultimately pleaded guilty to charges of inciting an underage girl into sexual activity and possessing 22 indecent images. Judge Timothy Mort addressed Newton directly, condemning his actions and highlighting the harmful nature of his interests. The judge stated, “You were clearly getting sexual gratification, but you did not consider that each of these youngsters were themselves victims. It is a thoroughly unhealthy interest.”

As part of his sentence, Newton was handed a three-year community order, which requires him to participate in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program. Additionally, he will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, aimed at monitoring and restricting his future conduct to prevent further offenses.
