OLIVER DERBIDGE FROM GLASTONBURY SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR ONLINE CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Glastonbury, Oliver Derbidge, aged 25, has been handed a 12-year prison sentence after admitting to a series of heinous online crimes involving the exploitation of young boys. The investigation into Derbidge’s activities was initiated in January 2021 when the National Crime Agency (NCA) began scrutinizing his online presence, following intelligence shared by the Australian Federal Police. The Australian authorities had provided details of a UK-based online account linked to an Australian offender who was actively sharing indecent images of children, known as IIOC.

Using this information, NCA investigators quickly identified Derbidge as the individual behind the account. Further probing revealed that he had a disturbing pattern of expressing sexual interest in young boys across various child abuse forums. The evidence collected during the investigation painted a troubling picture of his activities spanning over five years, from 2016 until his arrest in 2022.

Derbidge was promptly detained, and authorities seized his electronic devices. A forensic analysis of these devices uncovered a significant amount of illegal material, including indecent images of multiple teenage boys. Additionally, investigators found records of online conversations in which Derbidge engaged in blackmail, coercing a young boy into sexually abusing another child. These conversations demonstrated a calculated effort to manipulate and exploit vulnerable minors.

Throughout the investigation, it was established that Derbidge had been operating under the alias Emily Beecham, primarily targeting schoolboys on Snapchat. He would send friend requests, pretending to be a teenage girl, and solicit explicit photos from his victims. In some instances, he would send back images of a female he had sourced online, further deceiving the boys into believing they were communicating with a peer.

The NCA identified a total of 23 boys, aged between 11 and 16, who had fallen victim to Derbidge’s manipulative tactics. All of these victims confirmed that they had sent explicit images to the alias Emily Beecham, under the false impression that they were engaging with another teenager. Several victims revealed that Derbidge had threatened to share their nude photos with friends and family unless they continued to send more images or participate in acts of abuse against other children.

At Taunton Crown Court, Derbidge pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges, including causing or inciting a 15-year-old to engage in penetrative sexual activity, five counts of causing or inciting children aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual acts (non-penetrative), and three counts of making indecent images of children in categories A through C. The court’s verdict reflected the severity of his crimes, resulting in a substantial prison sentence of 12 years. Furthermore, Derbidge was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
