NOTTINGHAM PAEDOPHILE BRANDED 'A PROPER DANGER TO YOUNG WOMEN' AFTER SPATE OF TERRIFYING INCIDENTS
A paedophile who specifically targeted underage girls in Nottingham city centre has been described by a court as “a proper danger to young women”.During the proceedings, it was revealed that Ohene Kwame Awuku, 29, engaged in a series of troubling offences including asking a 15-year-old girl during her college enrollment for indecent images of herself, promising she would have his mixed-race babies.
The court was told he then approached a different underage girl outside the council house in Old Market Square, where he groped her after a brief gesture of friendship.
In a final incident, he walked up to a group of three 12-year-old girls and asked one of them “are you ready to have sex with me?” His criminal record includes previous convictions for burglary, battery, shoplifting, being drunk and disorderly, fraud, and sexual misconduct such as exposing himself to a prison officer.
Awuku has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual activity with a child, engaging in sexual communication with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and further charges of sexual communication with minors.
The judge, Shaun Smith KC, sentenced him to two and a half years in prison and imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, banning him from contact with females under 16 and from contacting his victims online or in person.
Awuku will also be registered as a sex offender for life.
The court also highlighted the emotional impact on his victims, with one stating she used to blame herself and has been working on loving herself again.
His previous offences, along with his mental health issues, were also discussed, with mitigation noting he had failed to take medication at the time of the offences.
