PENSIONER WHO SEXUALLY ABUSED YOUNG GIRL RECEIVED NINE-YEAR SENTENCE
A retired man repeatedly subjected a young girl, under the age of 10, to sexual assault over a period of two years, attempting to justify his actions by claiming it explained "where babies came from." Norman Search molested the girl at various locations, including a site where they watched planes land at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in Speke.He engaged in sexual acts with her on seven separate occasions, causing her significant emotional and mental trauma.
The abuse persisted until June of the previous year when her mother discovered dried blood, prompting the girl to disclose, "He touches me and scratches me down there." During police interviews, Search initially denied any wrongdoing, dismissing his arrest as "a joke" and asserting he was "going along with her fantasy." He also falsely claimed he was trying to treat her worms and her "itchy bottom." When asked about these allegations in court, his wife questioned him, and he admitted he did not understand his own motives, unable to justify his behavior.
The girl recounted that Search pulled down her pants while they were watching TV, describing the experience as "not nice." As a result, she struggled academically and faced mental health challenges.
Her mother expressed feelings of anger, guilt, and hopelessness, and admitted to self-harm.
The judge sentenced Search to nearly ten years in prison, imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and mandated lifelong registration as a sex offender.
A spectator in the courtroom clapped after the sentence was pronounced.
