NIGEL GRIGG SENTENCED IN BOURNEMOUTH FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A former teacher, Nigel Peter Grigg, has been classified as posing a significant risk to the public after attempting to arrange sexual activities with what he believed was an 11-year-old girl.Grigg communicated via the messaging app Kik with an individual named 'John,' who claimed he was willing to have his 'daughter' involved in sexual acts.
In reality, 'John' was an officer from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU).
Grigg planned to meet 'John' and his 'daughter' at McDonald's in Totton with the intent to commit child sex offences.
Prior to the meeting, the 69-year-old purchased gifts for the girl, including items from Ann Summers.
Police arrested him shortly after he arrived at the meeting point.
Sentencing at Bournemouth Crown Court, Judge Robert Pawson described the case as 'chilling reading for any parent, or any person.' Grigg was sentenced to five years in prison and received a two-year extended licence period after Judge Pawson declared him a dangerous offender.
He pleaded guilty to a single charge of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence committed between March 4 and March 12 of last year.
Prosecutor Jane Rowley explained that Kik was being exploited by paedophiles, and the investigation was supported by ROCU.
She told the court that online exchanges occurred between Grigg, who used the display name 'Randy Peter,' and the undercover officer posing as 'John.' There was also telephone contact, and two meetings were planned.

Rowley emphasized that the evidence demonstrated Grigg’s sexual interest in children and his attempts to groom the girl.
He had posted on Kik that he was 'looking for anyone near Bournemouth and interested in taboo family fun,' with the conversations being sexual from the start.
The Dorset Police's Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), working alongside partner agencies, helped in this case, which resulted in Grigg's arrest and criminal charges.
During mitigation, Kevin Hill stated that Grigg, of Croft Road, Poole, had no prior convictions and had shown remorse.
Mr.
Hill added that his client had self-referred for help regarding his sexual offences after the crime took place.
Judge Pawson summarized the case, noting that Grigg had 'boasted' on Kik about having 'done a 13-year-old in Thailand.' The judge remarked that Grigg had time to reconsider his actions and understand the seriousness of what he was about to do.
As part of his sentence, Grigg is subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders register for life.
