May 2013 Forest Town man downloaded depraved child abuse videos A Forest Town man who trawled the internet to find some of the most depraved child abuse images possible has been jailed for eight months. Nigel Andrew Doy, of The Ridings, admitted he got sexual gratification from the images and videos he downloaded, some of which included the appalling abuse of babies as young as six-months old. The 57-year-old appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to 17 charges, including making indecent images. Prosecuting, Gareth Gimson told the court that the sexual exploitation unit of the police had tracked Doy to his home and executed a warrant to search his home on 11th December last year. Doy told them that the images and videos could be found on two memory sticks. He was arrested and questioned and gave a full admission, and also that he gained sexual pleasure from them. Police found 2,958 images and videos of varying degrees of abuse, with hundreds of images and some videos fitting into the most serious level four and five categories, 
which can include rape and torture. Defending, Jon Straw, said that until now Doy had led a quiet life and had never been trouble. He said Doy was an ‘industrious’ working man, but had been living an ‘isolated existence’ in recent years. He said he was remorseful for his actions and wanted to deal with the ‘issues that led him to these activities.’ But Mr Straw called for Doy not to be jailed, saying the help he requires would not be available if he was given a custodial sentence, but would be available if he was handed a community order. Judge Gregory Dickinson agreed that the defendant would not receive the treatment he needed, but said the top-end category of some of the images and videos meant there had to be a jail term. Passing sentence, Judge Dickinson said to Doy: “To the outside world you appear to lead a decent , responsible, law-abiding life but you harboured a terrible and shocking secret. “Over many months you very clearly searched the internet for children being abused. “These are grim and wicked images and I have come to conclusion that only a custodial is justified.” He told Doy that he would generally serve half or maybe less of the eight-month sentence, but said that was not his decision. Doy was also given a 10-year sexual prevention order.
