NIGEL COLLINS FROM REDCAR JAILED FOR POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
A man with a troubling history of child sex offenses has been sentenced to prison once again after authorities uncovered a significant collection of highly illegal images on his personal computer. Nigel Collins, aged 75 and residing in Redcar, was found to be in possession of nearly 850 images classified as the most severe category of child abuse material. This discovery led to his immediate arrest and subsequent sentencing to two and a half years behind bars.The incident that brought Collins’s activities to light occurred during an unannounced visit by officers from Cleveland Police’s Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders unit (MOSOVO). The purpose of the visit was to verify Collins’s compliance with court-imposed restrictions and conditions, which had been established following two previous convictions related to similar offenses. Such visits are routine but crucial in monitoring high-risk offenders and preventing further harm.
During the inspection of Collins’s residence, the officers examined his computer equipment and found evidence that he had once again accessed and stored child abuse images. The discovery was alarming, given his prior convictions and the nature of the material found. Following this, Collins was promptly taken into custody, interviewed by detectives, and formally charged with making indecent images of children. He was then remanded in custody until his court appearance on Friday, January 24.
PC James Sexton, a member of the MOSOVO team, commented on the case, emphasizing the ongoing danger posed by Collins. “Collins is clearly still a dangerous individual with an enduring interest in making or accessing child abuse images,” he stated. He also highlighted the importance of diligent monitoring and the efforts of the police force to ensure compliance among offenders with restrictions. “We work tirelessly to ensure everyone subject to restrictions and conditions are monitored so that any breaches like this are detected and dealt with,” Sexton added.
He expressed gratitude towards the Digital Forensic Unit of the police force, whose swift and expert assistance was instrumental in gathering evidence that led to Collins’s re-incarceration. The case underscores the persistent threat posed by individuals with a history of such offenses, and the police’s commitment to safeguarding the community from potential harm.
