NICHOLAS TYRRELL SHOCKS FARNBOROUGH WITH CHILD SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND INAPPROPRIATE MESSAGES

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Farnborough community, a tribunal has conclusively determined that Nicholas Tyrrell, a former paramedic employed by the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), engaged in serious misconduct involving a minor. The tribunal's findings, announced on Friday, April 29, confirmed that all allegations brought against Tyrrell were proven beyond doubt.

Until late 2016, Tyrrell was stationed at Farnborough Ambulance Station, serving the western parts of Surrey and the north-eastern regions of Hampshire. The allegations against him include a range of inappropriate and criminal behaviors directed towards a child, known only as Child A. These accusations encompass physical contact, sexual activity, theft, and a pattern of inappropriate communication through messages.

Specifically, the tribunal found that Tyrrell placed his hands on Child A’s genitals over the child's clothing and squeezed, an act that constitutes sexual assault. Furthermore, he was accused of engaging in sexual acts in the presence of the child, which is a grave violation of trust and legal boundaries. Adding to the severity of the case, Tyrrell was also found to have stolen laughing gas from his employer, which he then supplied to the child.

The evidence presented during the tribunal revealed a disturbing pattern of communication between Tyrrell and Child A, involving thousands of messages exchanged from May 2016 to November 2016. These messages contained numerous references to sexual acts, explicit content, and inappropriate language. One particularly alarming message asked whether Tyrrell should buy the child a sex toy and lube for Christmas, highlighting the disturbing nature of their interactions.

Throughout the messaging history, Tyrrell referred to the child using terms like “pup” or “puppy,” with one message stating, “You will start as my puppy and I will be your puppy walker.” The extent of these communications was so significant that Child A’s parent managed to download a total of 37,968 Facebook messages between the two, revealing a pattern of grooming and manipulation.

Prior to these findings, Tyrrell faced criminal charges related to his conduct. He was accused of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of Child A, sexual assault, and theft of items from SECAmb. However, in a trial held at Winchester Crown Court, which concluded in May 2018, Tyrrell denied all charges and was subsequently found not guilty on all counts.

Despite the criminal acquittal, the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS) is now set to review his case. The tribunal will reconvene at the end of October to determine whether Tyrrell’s actions amount to professional misconduct and to consider any new evidence regarding his conduct since the initial allegations. The outcome of this review could lead to sanctions or the removal of his professional license.

SECAmb issued a statement emphasizing their serious stance on the matter. A spokesperson confirmed that the organization took immediate and appropriate action when the initial allegations surfaced in 2016. Tyrrell was allowed to leave the organization while facing gross misconduct charges, indicating the severity with which the ambulance service treated the accusations.

Among the numerous messages exchanged, some examples include affectionate and inappropriate remarks such as “Night pup sleep well,” “You will always be my puppy,” and “I love you to bits but I am scared that I am becoming too reliant on you.” Other messages contained explicit content, including references to sexual acts, images of nudity, and suggestive comments about the child's appearance and activities.

The case continues to develop as authorities and regulatory bodies assess the full extent of Tyrrell’s misconduct. The community remains deeply concerned about the safety of children and the integrity of professionals entrusted with their care, especially in light of the serious allegations and the disturbing evidence uncovered during the investigation.
