GALASHIELS SON SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON MOTHER
A son who inflicted 25 head injuries on his mother during an argument over loud music has been sentenced to 40 months in prison.Niall Gray, aged 20, confessed to assaulting his mother, causing her severe injuries at a residence on Beech Avenue in Galashiels on 9 June.He also admitted threatening to stab police officers who arrived to find the 43-year-old victim semi-conscious in a living room surrounded by blood pools.During the hearing at Selkirk Sheriff Court, Sheriff Kevin Drummond described Gray as "a danger to the community." Gray, who is currently held as a prisoner in Edinburgh, stated that he had consumed alcohol and injected heroin prior to committing the offenses.
