ABERDEEN MAN NIALL GORDON CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT VIDEOS IN DUNBLANE AND PUT ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER

In April 2016, Niall Gordon, a 29-year-old man originally from Aberdeen and residing in Dunblane, was found to be in possession of indecent videos involving children, leading to his placement on the sex offenders’ register.

Gordon, who works as a gutter cleaner, had stored these illicit videos on a laptop at his home in Dunblane, Stirlingshire. The discovery was made behind his fiancée’s back, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the safety of children depicted in the material.

The investigation was initiated after Police Scotland’s computer crime unit received intelligence indicating that the internet connection at Gordon’s residence had been used to access and download indecent images of children. Acting on this information, authorities executed a search warrant at his property. During the raid, officers uncovered 15 video clips on Gordon’s computer, which were subsequently examined.

Prosecutor Sarah Lumsden revealed that out of these 15 clips, ten were classified as the most serious “A” category, indicating the highest level of severity in terms of content. Gordon was arrested at the scene and subsequently questioned about his actions.

During police interviews, Gordon claimed that he did not derive any sexual gratification from viewing the videos. He stated that he had watched them between April and June of the previous year and insisted that he had stumbled upon the images while attempting to download music. He expressed that the content “disgusted” him and that he was shocked by his own actions.

However, Miss Lumsden pointed out that Gordon was unable to explain why he continued to view the material despite his claims of disgust. When he was read his rights, he maintained that he had no sexual interest in children and expressed that the situation had “ruined his life.”

At the time of the police raid, Gordon’s then-fiancée was not at home; she was out when officers arrived at approximately 7:30 am on October 26. She was contacted shortly afterward and returned to the property. She stated that she was unaware of Gordon’s access to the illicit material and confirmed that she had never seen the videos herself.

Gordon, who resides on Coldstream Avenue in Dunblane, pleaded guilty to downloading the videos between April and July of the previous year at his residence, where he had been living with his fiancée for three years. It was also revealed that he had been undergoing therapy with a psychotherapist since his arrest.

In court, Sheriff Wyllie Robertson decided to defer sentencing until June 8. The delay was granted to allow for the preparation of social background reports, a risk assessment, and a report from Gordon’s psychotherapist. Additionally, the sheriff ordered that Gordon be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the need for ongoing monitoring.
