July 2014 Saltford man with 20,000 child abuse photos caught by FBI AN FBI inquiry helped snare a Saltford man who downloaded more than 20,000 indecent photos of youngsters, which included a baby. Neil May lapsed from accessing adult porn to abuse pictures of children, Bristol Crown Court heard. An FBI investigation in the USA identified his involvement and Avon and Somerset police came knocking at his door. May, 67, of Trenchard Road, pleaded guilty to 15 charges of making indecent images and one charge of distributing them between 2005 and 2013. Jailing him for four years, Judge Graham Hume Jones told him the age of the children and time span of offending aggravated the offending. But he accepted May had volunteered for work to address his issues before he was even interviewed or charged. May was told to register as a sex offender for life and banned from working with children. He was also made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), banning him from unsupervised contact with children. Stephanie Hayward, prosecuting, said May was found to have 177 images and 24 movies at the highest abuse category. He had 20,313 images and 177 movies at the lowest ‘erotic posing’ level of concern. Though many images concerned young girls aged six to 13 years, one was of a baby, the court heard. Andrew Banks, defending, told the police investigation into May started in May last year. He said: “His home was visited by police, it was searched and they took away his computer equipment. “He was interviewed a year later. “He was in a world of his own. He thought his behaviour was a victimless crime. He said he had been looking at child abuse on the internet for a number of years. “He is not in denial. He gave a frank indication that this was a pattern of behaviour he embarked on and there was a high likelihood images would be found.”
