NEIL GILLIBRAND FROM PLYMOUTH CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN CORNWALL
In a case that has shocked the local community, Neil Gillibrand, formerly based in Plymouth, has been involved in a serious criminal matter related to the possession of indecent images of children.Recently, it was confirmed that Gillibrand has relocated to Tywardreath in Cornwall, where he is now residing.
His professional life has also been affected, as he has been dismissed from his position as a financial advisor due to the allegations and subsequent legal proceedings.
The incident came to light when police conducted a raid on Gillibrand’s residence in January 2016.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized his computer and other electronic devices for examination.
The investigation revealed that Gillibrand had been searching for and possessing images depicting child abuse, including some of the most severe categories of such material.
The police found that his internet history included searches for forced sexual acts involving minors, which raised significant concern.
Further analysis of the digital evidence uncovered that Gillibrand’s computer contained a wide range of indecent images of children, spanning from Category C to the most severe Category A.
These findings indicated a disturbing pattern of interest and possession of illegal material.
Initially, Gillibrand maintained his innocence, claiming that he had accidentally downloaded the images while attempting to access regular adult pornography.
However, investigators found this explanation unconvincing, as the evidence clearly demonstrated deliberate searches and downloads.
Gillibrand’s legal journey included a plea change.
He initially pleaded not guilty during earlier hearings but later changed his plea to guilty to avoid a lengthy trial.
This strategic decision resulted in a more lenient sentence.
In March 2017, he appeared at Plymouth Crown Court where he was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of seven years and was informed that a sexual harm prevention order would be imposed on him.
Despite the conviction, Gillibrand has claimed innocence up to this point, asserting that his actions were accidental.
Nevertheless, the court’s decision reflects the severity of the offense and the ongoing efforts to monitor and prevent such crimes.
His case remains a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the legal system’s role in protecting vulnerable populations from exploitation and abuse.
