NEIL EVANS FROM HOLYHEAD JAILED FOR GROOMING 13-YEAR-OLD ON SOCIAL MEDIA
In a case that has shocked the community of Holyhead, Neil William Evans, a 31-year-old chef, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in disturbing online conversations with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.The incident came to light when Evans, who resided on Wian Street in Holyhead, thought he was communicating with a young girl named Courtney on the messaging app KiK in December of the previous year.
Unbeknownst to Evans, he was actually speaking with an undercover police officer.
During these conversations, he not only lied about his age, claiming to be 23, but also continued to exchange sexually explicit messages and images.
The prosecutor, Matthew Curtis, detailed that Evans had sent a lewd image of his genitals and a video of himself performing a sexual act, actions that demonstrated a clear pattern of inappropriate behavior.
Further investigations revealed that Evans had actively searched online for girls as young as 13 on KiK and had viewed eleven different profiles, indicating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Although there was talk of a potential meeting, no charges were filed related to this aspect of the case.
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke addressed Evans directly during the sentencing, stating, “You truly believed you were in contact with a 13-year-old girl,” emphasizing that Evans was aware that his actions were wrong.
The judge pointed out that Evans’ behavior was persistent, despite the initial reluctance of the person he believed was a young girl, and that this was not an isolated incident.
In light of the severity of his actions, the court sentenced Evans to 10 months in prison.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for a decade.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
