NATHAN STANLEY, BROMSGROVE PERVERT, SENTENCED IN WORCESTER FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRLS

In July 2020, Nathan Stanley, a resident of Bromsgrove, was convicted and sentenced for a series of disturbing sexual offences involving underage girls. The case, heard at Worcester Crown Court, highlighted the dangers posed by social media platforms and the grooming behaviors employed by offenders to exploit vulnerable minors.

Stanley, aged 22 at the time of sentencing, was found guilty of engaging in full sexual activity with two underage girls, one aged 14 and the other 15. He also attempted to persuade a third girl to send him explicit images of herself. The court heard that Stanley had lied about his age, claiming to be 17, when he contacted the victims through social media apps Yubo and Snapchat.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Stanley had committed multiple sexual offences over a period spanning from February to March 2017. Specifically, he admitted to having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl on March 19, 2017, which involved digital penetration with his fingers. The following day, he engaged in oral sex with her, and on March 21, he had full sexual intercourse with her. Additionally, Stanley admitted to inciting or causing a second girl to engage in sexual activity, which took place between February 1 and March 31, 2017. He also had full sex with another girl, aged 14, at her home during the same period.

Prosecutor Giles Nelson described Stanley’s conduct as a “protracted episode” involving significant planning and grooming tactics. The defendant refused to cooperate with police interviews, replying with “no comment,” and the victims were required to attend identity procedures to confirm their identities. Nelson highlighted that Stanley told one girl that he was not a paedophile and reassured her there was nothing to worry about, despite the clear evidence of his offending.

Judge James Burbidge QC, the Recorder of Worcester, addressed the court, emphasizing the serious implications of the case. He stated, “Your offending represents another sad case of the dangers of the use of social media by teenagers or children. For you, social media was a tool to find teenage girls, not to form genuine relationships, but to pursue sexual encounters with any girl who responded to your overtures.”

He further noted that Stanley immediately lied about his age to the victims and encouraged one girl to sneak out of her home to meet him. When his actions were discovered, he advised her to tell police she was 18 to avoid trouble. The defendant also attempted to persuade one girl to get into his car and persistently messaged her over two weeks, asking for explicit photos. In one message, he explicitly requested her to “take your top off and let me see,” while also trying to reassure her, claiming, “I’m not a paedophile.”

Victims’ personal statements revealed that some had experienced anxiety and wariness in future relationships due to their encounters with Stanley. The court considered aggravating factors, including the fact that some assaults occurred in secluded locations and that Stanley had lied about his age to facilitate his offending.

In light of these findings, the court sentenced Nathan Stanley to four years in prison. Additionally, he was placed under an eight-year sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his access to the internet and limits his contact with minors, aiming to prevent further harm and protect potential victims in the future.
