--------------------------- 2020-07-22 00:01: In July 2020, a disturbing incident occurred involving Nathan Russell, a 28-year-old man from Birkenhead, who targeted a young girl aboard a train.
The assault took place in a public setting, where Russell's predatory behavior left a lasting impact on the victim and raised serious concerns about safety on public transportation.
According to court reports, Russell waited until his friend disembarked from the train before positioning himself diagonally across from a 16-year-old girl.
Once alone, he engaged her in conversation, asking where she was headed and suggesting that he might leave the train with her.
During this interaction, Russell revealed to the girl that he had been incarcerated and was due to return to prison soon, a statement that added a layer of intimidation to his behavior.
Over the course of approximately ten minutes, Russell inappropriately touched the girl’s leg and thigh, attempting to establish a sexual connection.
He then asked her if she was and then sexually assaulted her.
Russell, of no fixed abode, admitted sexual assault at Liverpool Crown Court today (July 20) along with an assault occasioning actual bodily harm and failing to comply with requirements of the sex offenders register.
Judge Swinnerton ordered Russell to serve 28 months in prison, half of which will be served on licence, and to comply with a Sexual Harm and Prevention Order.
He must also sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
