NATHAN PORTER SALFORD TOWN HALL WORKER CAUGHT WITH CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE IMAGES

In March 2010, a disturbing case emerged involving Nathan Porter, a town hall employee based in Salford, who was dismissed from his position after being found in possession of highly illegal and disturbing images related to child and animal abuse.

Porter’s criminal activities came to light when a flatmate, upon logging into his home computer, discovered evidence of his disturbing intentions. The flatmate was alarmed to find that Porter had attempted to set up a webcam viewing session involving a child engaged in sexual acts. Recognizing the severity of what he had seen, the flatmate immediately contacted law enforcement authorities to report the incident.

Following the report, police officers conducted a thorough search of Porter’s residence on Jones Street, Langworthy, in Salford. During the search, they uncovered seven DVDs that contained footage of women engaging in sexual acts with animals, a clear indication of Porter’s involvement in extreme and illegal content. Further forensic analysis of Porter’s computer revealed that he had downloaded two explicit images depicting young girls approximately ten years old, adding to the gravity of his offenses.

As a result of these findings, Porter was suspended from his role within the strategic regeneration unit at Salford City Council. The council confirmed that his employment was terminated due to a loss of trust following his arrest and subsequent charges. The case drew significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the crimes involved.

Porter, aged 32 and residing on Jones Street in Langworthy, appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to seven counts of possessing extreme pornography. He also requested that an additional 38 charges be taken into consideration, indicating a broader pattern of disturbing behavior. In addition to these charges, Porter admitted to attempting to incite a child to participate in a sexual act and to creating an indecent image of a child, further highlighting the severity of his criminal conduct.

Judge Jeffrey Lewis, presiding over the case at Minshull Street Crown Court, emphasized the seriousness of Porter’s offenses. He stated that the crimes were so grave that prison would typically be the only appropriate sentence. However, given that Porter had already served seven months in remand detention—having refused to apply for bail—the judge opted for a community order with strict supervision requirements for a period of three years. Judge Lewis remarked, “There is nothing I can say to you that you have not thought of yourself,” underscoring the personal responsibility Porter bore for his actions.

The court proceedings revealed that Porter was arrested in August of the previous year. During the investigation, authorities uncovered an online conversation in which Porter discussed paying £50 to watch sexual activity involving a child. Prosecutor Alaric Bassano detailed part of this dialogue, quoting Porter as saying: “Have you got young bum? Hope you can get it for me. Eleven to 12 would be good,” illustrating his disturbing intentions and willingness to pay for such illicit content.
