NATHAN HOLGATE JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN GOOLE

In a case that has shocked the community of Goole, Nathan Holgate, aged 24, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offences involving underage girls. The court heard that Holgate used modern messaging platforms such as Blackberry Messenger (BBM) and WhatsApp to target and groom young girls, exploiting their trust to satisfy his unlawful desires.

Holgate's criminal activities included grooming a 14-year-old girl and engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl on two separate occasions. The grooming process involved initiating conversations through online chat rooms, where he encouraged the girls to send him explicit photographs of themselves. These exchanges were conducted in real-time messaging, allowing him to maintain a covert and manipulative communication channel.

Police investigations revealed that at the time of his arrest, Holgate possessed five indecent images of one of his victims, a clear indication of his ongoing predatory behavior. During police interviews, he admitted that the girl in the photographs was not his first victim, confirming a pattern of offending. His actions came to light after a 14-year-old girl, whom he had met in person, was encouraged to send him nude pictures. The girl later met Holgate for kisses, which raised concerns within her family. Her sister, worried about the significant age difference, alerted their mother, prompting police intervention.

Holgate was apprehended after the incident, which took place between July 11, 2012, and February 18, 2013, in Goole. Despite initially denying any intent to engage in sexual activity, the evidence presented in court proved otherwise. It was only during his police interview that Holgate admitted to having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl on two occasions between December 1, 2012, and January 31, 2013. These acts included penetrative sexual activity, which the court deemed highly concerning.

Holgate, of Sotheron Street in Goole, faced multiple charges under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, including grooming, sexual activity with a minor, and possession of indecent images. His guilty pleas to seven charges reflected the severity of his misconduct. The judge, Michael Mettyear, emphasized the disturbing nature of such offenses, highlighting the increasing prevalence of online grooming and exploitation of young girls.

Judge Mettyear remarked that these cases often involve young girls being persuaded to expose themselves over the internet, sometimes feeling regret afterward and falling victim to blackmail or coercion. He pointed out that Holgate's actions went beyond mere grooming, as he met the girl in person and engaged in physical contact, including kissing and cuddling, despite her being only 14. The judge also noted that Holgate's sexual activity with the 15-year-old was approaching an age where such conduct would be legally permissible, but the law aims to protect minors from themselves.

Concluding his remarks, Judge Mettyear stressed the importance of sending a clear message that such conduct is unacceptable and will be met with strict penalties. As a result, Nathan Holgate was sentenced to 15 months in prison, a sentence intended to reflect the gravity of his offenses and serve as a warning to others in the community of Goole.
