NATHAN COLE SENTENCED IN DERBY FOR RAPE OF TWO WOMEN WHO OFFERED HELP
In a recent and disturbing case in Derby, Nathan Cole, a man with no fixed address, has been sentenced to a total of twenty years in prison after being convicted of raping two women who had initially extended him kindness and assistance.Despite his denial of the charges, Cole was found guilty following a trial held at Derby Crown Court in April.
The court heard details of two separate incidents that took place in 2022, both involving women who had tried to help him during difficult times.
The first assault occurred in January 2022.
At that time, Cole was staying in a local hostel, but he was reportedly experiencing issues there, which led to one of the women inviting him to stay overnight at her home.
She offered her help out of concern, perhaps hoping to provide him with some stability.
However, shortly after she went to bed, Cole entered her bedroom without permission and subjected her to a brutal rape.
The woman’s screams and pleas for him to stop were ignored, and the assault left her deeply traumatized.
In March 2022, Cole’s troubles continued when he sustained a head injury and sought medical treatment at a hospital.
While there, he engaged in conversation with a woman outside the facility.
During their discussion, Cole disclosed that he was homeless and anticipated sleeping rough on the streets for the foreseeable future.
Moved by his plight, the woman decided to invite him back to her home for a night, concerned about his well-being.
The following day, Cole asked if he could stay a few more nights while he tried to get his life back on track.
Unfortunately, during his stay, Cole committed two violent rapes against this woman, causing her physical injuries and significant emotional distress.
The trauma was so severe that she later sought support from a friend and reported the incidents to the police.
Both women provided statements in court describing the profound and lasting impact of Cole’s actions.
One victim expressed how she now spends extra time scrubbing herself in the shower, feeling contaminated and dirty.
She revealed that she had attempted to take her own life and fears that her life will never return to normal.
The second woman shared similar feelings of devastation, explaining how she now finds it difficult to trust anyone, struggles with sleep and eating, and suffers from anxiety.
She also disclosed that she has been using alcohol as a way to numb the memories of the assault.
On Saturday, April 20, during the sentencing hearing, Cole was handed a sentence of 15 years in prison, along with an additional five-year extended sentence.
The court also imposed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the first victim until further notice.
Furthermore, Cole was placed on the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
