NADESAPILLAI ‘RAJ’ THISAWEERASINGHAM SENTENCED IN NORTHWICH FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Northwich community, Nadesapillai ‘Raj’ Thisaweerasingham, a 45-year-old man from Burnside Way, Northwich, has been convicted and sentenced for the sexual abuse of young girls. The disturbing allegations came to light in July 2017 when concerns were formally raised with officers from the Northwich Local Policing Unit, prompting a thorough investigation into the man’s activities.During the investigation, authorities uncovered evidence that Thisaweerasingham had engaged in the sexual exploitation of six girls aged between 10 and 13 years old, over a period spanning from January 1 to July 11, 2017. The victims, all young and vulnerable, were reportedly befriended by Thisaweerasingham, who used gifts, sweets, and money as tools to manipulate and gain their trust. His actions were driven by his own sexual gratification, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of these innocent girls.
Following a 14-day trial at Chester Crown Court, Thisaweerasingham was found guilty of multiple charges, including three counts of sexual assault against a 13-year-old and two 10-year-old girls, one count of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court’s verdict also included that he was not guilty of nine additional counts, which comprised six sexual assaults, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one of sexual activity with a child, and one of assault by penetration.
On Wednesday, February 14, Chester Crown Court sentenced Thisaweerasingham to four years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offender’s register for life and was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). These measures reflect the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
The court acknowledged the profound and lasting trauma inflicted upon the victims, emphasizing that the effects of his actions will likely influence their lives well into the future. The case has highlighted the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable children from predators like Thisaweerasingham, whose manipulative tactics exploited their innocence for his own sexual satisfaction.
