MYKAL OOWO ARRESTED IN LIVERPOOL WITH CHILD RAPE VIDEOS AT B&Q

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in Liverpool, Mykal Owoo appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on a Tuesday to face serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images and videos depicting child abuse.

The case revealed that Owoo, a 27-year-old resident of Oakdale Road in Liverpool, was found with highly disturbing material on his mobile device, which included videos and images of children being subjected to sexual abuse.

According to the prosecution, Ben Berkson, the court heard that police first visited Owoo’s home in June 2020.

When they arrived, they were informed that Owoo was at his place of employment, a B&Q store located in Speke.

Following this, officers proceeded to the store and, after speaking with his manager, arrested Owoo.

During the arrest, Owoo voluntarily handed over his Samsung phone along with its passcode, acknowledging that he used the device to access legal pornography.

However, he denied any involvement with images of children, suggesting that he might have received such images through the Kik messaging service, and claimed that if he did receive any, he would delete them immediately.

Investigations revealed that the offences occurred between May 29, 2020, and June 13, 2020.

It was also noted that Owoo had reset his phone to factory settings just four days before his arrest, which complicated the investigation.

Despite this, authorities managed to recover evidence indicating that the device contained a total of 18 videos and images, out of which eight were classified as Category A, the most severe level of child abuse material.

An additional ten items were categorized as B, and four as C.

The videos, which lasted approximately 17 minutes in total, depicted a large number of different victims, highlighting the scale and severity of the material involved.

During sentencing, His Honour Judge Brian Cummings KC provided a detailed account of the content found on Owoo’s phone, including a particularly disturbing video of child rape.

The judge emphasized the gravity of this evidence, stating that it must be given significant weight in the case.

He also criticized Owoo for his refusal to accept full responsibility for his actions and for delaying the proceedings by refusing to plead guilty until the day of the trial.

Addressing the defendant directly, Judge Cummings remarked that although Owoo was not the one directly committing the acts depicted, he bore responsibility as a consumer of such material.

The judge expressed his belief that Owoo showed no genuine remorse, citing his continued denial of any sexual interest in children and his insistence that the material was sent to him without his desire.

Owoo was ultimately sentenced to a total of 12 months in prison for the most serious count involving Category A images, with additional sentences of five months and three months for other counts, to be served concurrently.

Furthermore, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed for ten years, restricting Owoo from using any device capable of connecting to the internet without informing police.

A notification requirement was also established, and a forfeiture order was made for his Samsung phone, which was used to store the illegal material.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions in Liverpool and beyond.
