MURAD KHANDOKAR WANTED IN CO MEATH AND DUBLIN AFTER SEX ATTACKS
In August 2019, authorities issued a nationwide alert to locate Murad Khandokar, a man with a troubling criminal history, who is currently wanted in connection with two separate suspected sexual assault incidents. Khandokar, aged 45, originally from the United Kingdom, has become the focus of a significant manhunt involving gardai across Ireland, particularly in Dublin and Co Meath. He is the primary suspect in a sexual assault that took place on the Luas tram system in Dublin on May 25. Witnesses and investigators describe the incident as a serious breach of public safety, with the victim, a young woman, left traumatized by the attack. The details of the assault remain under investigation, but Khandokar’s involvement has been strongly suspected since the incident came to light.
In addition to the Dublin incident, gardai in Ashbourne, Co Meath, are also seeking Khandokar in connection with an earlier assault on another woman. The authorities have expressed concern that he may have fled the country, possibly returning to the UK, which complicates efforts to apprehend him. As part of their ongoing investigation, gardai have issued a nationwide alert, urging the public to be vigilant and to report any sightings of Khandokar.
A law enforcement source revealed that Khandokar is considered the chief suspect in both cases. He has a prior conviction for sexual assault, which adds to the urgency of his capture. The source emphasized that gardai are eager to interview him regarding the recent attacks and that if he is found within Irish borders, he will be immediately detained and questioned.
Following the incident on the Luas, it is believed that Khandokar fled his Dublin residence. Investigators have uncovered that he broke into his former home in Dublin on June 21, possibly in an attempt to recover his passport. This act suggests he may be trying to evade detection or leave the country. Khandokar, who was jailed in 2018 for a separate sexual assault, is legally required to notify gardai of his whereabouts until 2023 under the Sex Offenders Act. Despite this, authorities suspect he is actively trying to avoid arrest.
Sources indicate that Khandokar is aware he is wanted and is considered a serious flight risk by gardai. The break-in at his old residence is seen as an attempt to retrieve essential identification documents, but there have been no confirmed sightings of him since then. Authorities warn the public that if anyone encounters Khandokar, they should contact gardai immediately to facilitate his swift arrest.
In a related development, law enforcement officials are also searching for another sex offender from the UK, Mohamoud Abdi Al-Amudi. He failed to update authorities with his current address, prompting an investigation. UK police contacted gardai after discovering that Al-Amudi’s phone was roaming in Ireland earlier this year. Al-Amudi was released from prison in the UK last year after serving an eight-year sentence for attempted rape in 2006. The UK authorities are eager to locate him and have requested assistance from Irish law enforcement in tracking his whereabouts.
