MUHAMMAD SALEEM CAUGHT IN NEWCASTLE BY DARK JUSTICE PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS
In July 2017, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Muhammad Saleem, a 32-year-old pizza chef from Newcastle, who was caught in a sting operation conducted by the Dark Justice paedophile hunter group. The confrontation was recorded on video, capturing the moment Saleem believed he was meeting a 13-year-old girl for sexual purposes, only to be met with the vigilante group's intervention.
Saleem had been engaging in online conversations with what he thought was a young girl, but in reality, he was communicating with members of Dark Justice, who pose as minors to trap predators.
During these exchanges, Saleem displayed alarming intentions, describing in graphic detail what he wanted to do with the girl.
He referred to himself as her 'boyfriend' and demanded intimate photographs of her in the bath, asserting that he 'had a right' to see her.
His messages also included explicit questions about her sexual preferences, such as asking what her favorite sexual position was and whether she wanted to 'suck his lollipop.' When Saleem arranged to meet the girl in Newcastle's Times Square, he was instead confronted by members of the paedophile hunter group.
The group challenged him, asking if he knew how old the girl was.
Saleem, looking down and appearing nervous, responded with a simple 'No.' The group pressed further, asking if she was not 13 years old, to which he replied, 'I don't know mate.' Attempting to evade detection, Saleem tried to walk away from the group and shield his face from the camera.
He was seen frantically attempting to wipe all chat history from his mobile phone by performing a factory reset.
His actions indicated an attempt to destroy evidence of his conversations and intentions.
Following the confrontation, police arrived and arrested Saleem on charges of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
He initially admitted to the charges but later sought to change his plea, a move that was rejected by Newcastle Crown Court.
Ultimately, Saleem was sentenced to 14 months in prison for his actions.
The Dark Justice organization, responsible for the sting, is an undercover group that operates by posing as children online to catch sexual predators.
Their efforts have resulted in 52 convictions, with 28 offenders currently jailed.
A member of the group commented on Saleem's case, describing him as 'an absolute parasite' and expressing satisfaction with the sentence, though noting it could have been longer.
The member also criticized Saleem for showing no remorse and attempting to destroy evidence, as well as for trying to buy more time by appealing his plea.
Furthermore, the group revealed that Saleem had confessed to having other girls perform oral sex in the takeaway where he worked, highlighting the danger he posed to children and the public.
The member described him as 'vile' and 'a nasty piece of work.' In April, a court ruling confirmed that Dark Justice could continue their online operations, posing as minors to catch predators.
Legal challenges from defense teams argued that evidence gathered by such groups compromised the integrity of the court process and called for regulation of their activities.
However, a judge at Newcastle Crown Court dismissed these arguments, stating that there was no legal requirement for controls over Dark Justice's methods, allowing their ongoing work to continue unimpeded.
