MUHAMADAIM SALIH AND DOUD CONVICTED IN HUDDERSFIELD SUBWAY GANG RAPE CASE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Huddersfield, three men have been found guilty of heinous crimes committed in the town centre.

The incident involved the brutal gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in a subway located beneath the A62 Castlegate, a busy thoroughfare connecting New North Road Baptist Church and the old Technical College building.

Following a comprehensive nine-day trial at Leeds Crown Court, a jury composed of seven men and five women deliberated for over six hours before reaching a unanimous verdict.

The jury convicted Saddam Muhamadaim, Abdul Latif Salih, and Bahaldin Doud on multiple charges related to the assault, highlighting the severity and brutality of the attack.

Saddam Muhamadaim, who hails from Blacker Road in Birkby, was convicted on three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.

It was revealed during the trial that Muhamadaim, who originally came to the UK from Sudan, provided conflicting information about his date of birth.

On an asylum registration form, he listed his birth as January 1993, but later told police it was March 2001.

This discrepancy suggests he was 17 at the time of the assault, rather than the 25 or 18 he is now, raising questions about his age and the legal proceedings.

Abdul Latif Salih, aged 35 and residing on Trinity Street in Huddersfield town centre, was convicted of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, along with one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.

Notably, Salih was also unanimously acquitted of a separate charge of sexual assault, which indicates the jury's careful consideration of the evidence presented.

Bahaldin Doud, aged 21 and from Village Terrace in Burley, Leeds, was convicted of two counts of attempted rape.

All three defendants were remanded into custody immediately following the verdicts, with the court warning that they face 'very lengthy' prison sentences.

The judge also indicated that the duration of their registration on the sex offenders register will depend on the length of their sentences, but it is likely to be for the rest of their lives.

Sentencing for the convicted men has been postponed pending further investigation into Muhamadaim’s age, which could influence the severity of their sentences.

The court emphasized that the defendants will be held accountable for their actions and that justice will be served, reflecting the seriousness of the crime committed in Huddersfield’s town centre.
