MOHAMMED AMIN SENTENCED IN CARDIFF FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In April 2016, a disturbing case of child sexual exploitation came to light in Cardiff involving Mohammed Amin, a 27-year-old man whose actions have left a lasting impact on a young girl.

Amin was convicted and sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting to a series of serious sexual offences against an 11-year-old girl, whose identity remains protected by law.

Details of the case reveal that Amin had been grooming the young victim over an extended period, during which he manipulated her through various means, including the delivery of notes via her bedroom window.

These notes included questions such as, 'Will you go out with me?', indicating his attempt to establish a romantic relationship with a minor.

The court heard that Amin initially lied about his age, claiming to be 22, but later admitted to being 26.

The girl, at the time, told him she was 14, but she later disclosed that she was only 11 years old when the relationship began.

The abuse reportedly lasted approximately 18 months, during which Amin coerced the girl into a sexual relationship.

The girl confided in a school staff member, which eventually led to police involvement.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett explained that the girl described their relationship as akin to being 'boyfriend and girlfriend.' She recounted that Amin would sometimes take her to Cardiff Bay in his car for outings and that she would visit his flat almost daily.

The court was told that the sexual contact began almost immediately after they became friends, with kissing occurring early on.

Further evidence revealed that Amin's inappropriate conduct extended beyond notes and casual contact.

The girl’s mother noticed Amin and her daughter through his bedroom window, prompting her to contact the police.

When questioned, the girl admitted she had initially lied about her age but later recognized the harm caused by the relationship.

She expressed that she did not want Amin to go to jail initially but had come to understand the negative impact it had on her.

During his initial detention, Amin denied anything beyond kissing the girl on the lips.

However, he later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of rape of a child under 13, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration.

Defense lawyer Susan Ferrier acknowledged her client’s acceptance of guilt, suggesting that Amin had taken time to fully comprehend the gravity of his actions and expressed regret for his conduct.

Despite this, the court’s sentencing was severe.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins sentenced Amin to 15 years in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.

The judge stated, “You took advantage of a young complainant and bombarded her with notes and letters.

You knew or must have been aware of her age and vulnerability.

She was half your age.

You have taken away her childhood and her innocence.” In addition to the prison sentence, Amin was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect until further notice.

He was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.

The case was met with praise from law enforcement officials, including Detective Inspector Dinlle Francis of South Wales Police, who highlighted the importance of the sentence.

She stated, “This sentence sends out a clear message, sexual exploitation is an abhorrent crime and we are committed to working with our partner agencies and families to prevent and tackle sexual exploitation in all its forms.

I want to thank the victim in this case for their bravery in coming forward.

It is because of their courage that this man has been found guilty of serious sexual offences against children and potential victims are now safe from him.”
