JAILED FOR TWO YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS AFTER ADMITTING CARRYING OUT A CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE AGAINST HIS NEW WIFE.
A man has been jailed for two years and four months after admitting carrying out a campaign of violence against his new wife.
Lincoln Crown Court heard that Mohammed Ali, 35, dragged his victim by her feet, repeatedly slapped her and threatened her with a large stick.
Prosecutor Alice Ibbotson said the victim described being repeatedly hit and then kicked "like a football." The court was told Ali, of High Street, Lincoln, would lose his temper when he felt his wife, who came to the UK from Bangladesh in October 2023, was disobeying him and he also believed she did not know enough about their Islamic religion.
Miss Ibbotson said Ali also left his wife with red marks on her throat after grabbing her neck and threw her mobile phone against a wall.
The court heard Ali was sentenced to a 12-month community order in 2015 for offences against his previous wife.
Ali pleaded guilty to two charges of controlling and coercive behaviour and criminal damage between January 2024 and May 2025.
Passing sentence, Recorder James Bide-Thomas told Ali his wife "was isolated and dependent on him".
He said Ali threatened to send the victim back to Bangladesh and was unhappy with her religious observance.
"You would become angry and violent," the judge said.
"An example of this was when she gained work and you did not like this." A restraining order was also made which prevents Ali having any contact with his ex-wife for 10 years.
